The property

The house

"O Monte" is an 1879 Alentejo farmhouse inside the Quinta da Queimada estate, in the parish of Canaviais — registered as local accommodation (RNAL 18365/AL). It's the owners' own country house, given over entirely to guests: two spacious double bedrooms (Quarto da Cegonha and Quarto da Bicicleta), a common room with a traditional open hearth, dining area, TV, wi-fi, an equipped kitchen and one bathroom. It's surrounded by horse paddocks, a century-old olive grove and granite outcrops — a two-hundred-year-old eucalyptus holds a stork's nest.

Outside, two courtyards with trees, shade, garden furniture and a barbecue. For larger groups, two more bedrooms are available in the Main House (the owners' residence): one double with its own bathroom, one single. Free bicycles, a pool with set hours, stabling for horses and dogs, and one guest pet is welcome.

In the host's words

“A holiday at Quinta da Queimada means enjoying a century-old but fully equipped house, and a large estate very close to Évora yet very peaceful, where you hear birdsong and spot rabbits and partridges.”
“Excellent for family holidays and groups of friends. Children are very welcome, free to roam and enjoy the outdoor space as they please.”
“You can also spot Lusitano horses, bred on this property.”

Location

Where it is

Évora's historic centre has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1986 ("Historic Centre of Évora"). In 2027, Évora — together with the Alentejo — will be European Capital of Culture, the fourth Portuguese city to hold the title. The city lies 140 km east of Lisbon.

Quinta da Queimada sits in the parish of Canaviais, in a rural setting bordering other rural estates. The listing and the property's own website say "2.5 km from the city of Évora" — but the measured door-to-door distance (OSRM, from the official RNAL coordinates) to the Cathedral, inside the walled historic centre, is 6.2 km and about a 12-minute drive. There is no public transport nearby: this is a destination built for guests with their own car.

A 12-minute drive (6.2 km) to the Cathedral, inside the walled historic centre — measured door-to-door from the property's official registry coordinates (RNAL 18365/AL). The listing mentions "2.5 km from the city", likely to the edge of the built-up area, not the walled centre.

Do I really need a car?

Yes. There is no public transport near the farm — the listing itself says so. Évora, restaurants, the pharmacy and the grocery store are all a short drive away.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, one guest pet is welcome. The estate also has its own facilities for dogs (and horses).

Is there space for horses?

Yes — the estate has stabling for horses (boxes/open-air riding ring) and sits on the Ribatejo-Alentejo equestrian route; horse rides available on request, price on enquiry.

Is there wi-fi?

Yes, free wi-fi throughout the house. The password is given by the host at check-in.

What are the pool hours?

Per the Airbnb listing (most recent): 9am-1pm and 3pm-7pm. Children always supervised by parents.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in: 4pm-10pm (flexible if arranged in advance). Check-out: 8am-11:30am.

What languages can I speak with the host?

Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and German.

Are there bicycles to use?

Yes, the estate provides bicycles free of charge to explore the surrounding area.

What's the price for 6 people?

The published price (€120/night) covers only 4 people in 2 bedrooms. For the extra 2 guests (Main House bedrooms), the price is on request — ask the host directly.
